Where is Masai Mara Located

Where is Masai Mara National Reserve located? This massive game reserve is found in Narok County, Kenya, and is named in honour of the old Maasai tribes that have inhabited the region for centuries. Masai Mara falls along the Southern border of Kenya and Tanzania, alongside Serengeti National Park.

Maasai Mara National Reserve is 240 KM from Nairobi, in the South West direction. It’s approximately 6 hours drive from Nairobi and Lake Naivasha by road and 45 Minutes flight from Nairobi.

Masai Mara Geography

Masai Mara ecosystem contains some 25% of what is left of Kenyan wildlife. The estimate says that around 70% of Kenya’s wildlife lives outside national parks and reserves.

Masai Mara is located in the Great Rift Valley, almost 3500 miles stretching from the Red Sea of Ethiopia through Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, and Mozambique.

Maasai Mara National Reserve spans an area of about 1,510 sq km, equivalent to 580 sq miles in southwest Kenya. This makes its the largest National Reserve in Kenya.

Spanning more than 1510 Square Kilometers, the reserve boosts to be home to lots of wildlife species such as the big cats, birds, unique and rare wildlife species. Bordering to the South is Serengeti, that share the same ecosystem, making wildlife territories big and wide. Wildlife roam freely around this ecosystem such as the great wildebeest migration.

Its very rare to see wildlife species like caracals, bat eared foxes, and other, but these have been spoted easily in the Masai Mara.
